For the past few years, passerby in downtown Seattle have marveled at three large transparent globe-like structures that dominate part of Amazon’s campus. Now, the online retailer has announced that the biospheres, or simply “the Spheres,” will at least in part be open for public viewing beginning January 30. The visitor area known as “The Understory” takes it’s name from the ecology of the company’s namesake rainforest. The spheres themselves are full of plant life, designed as an alternative workspace. Visitors who desire a fuller experience can also sign up for an 90-minute tour of the Amazon HQ building. More casual tourists will have to content themselves with “The Sphere Discovery Experience,” an exhibit which promises a “360-experience” of the spheres. The public area will also feature a bar and Italian restaurant.
