Seattle Symphony has announced the development of a new, high-tech space at their home of Benaroya Hall that will replace the previous Soundbridge Music Discovery Center. Christened the Octave 9: Raisebeck Music Center and designed by LMN Architects, the new performance venue will be created with immersion and technological advancement at the forefront. The ceiling of the 2,500-square-foot space will employ a honeycomb-like design both for acoustic absorption and for hiding speakers, lights and other equipment. The space will also feature 13 projection panels that can be adjusted along a circular track, making for visual spectacle to go with the music. Storage for instruments will also be built into the room. The $6.7 million project will be funded through a mix of public and private funds, including 4Culture and the namesake Raisebeck family, and should be completed by February 2019
