The Bothell City Council recently voted to acquire the land previously occupied by Wayne Golf Course. The 87 acre tract is the largest parkland purchase ever made by the city. The land will be made available both for public recreation as well as have areas devoted to wildlife conservation, including restored salmon habitat along the Sammamish River. Originally the Back 9 of the golf course was set to be redeveloped into luxury townhouses, but a community group known as One Bothell fought to preserve the area as green space. In 2016, community land trust Forterra bought the land under the understanding that the city would purchase it back in the coming years. Due in part to funding from Washington State and King County, that vision is now being completed.
