On Thursday, residents of the Cubix micro apartment complex on 95th St had to evacuate after a stop work order from the City of Seattle revealed that the building was never given a legal occupancy permit. Building inspectors stated that the 41-unit complex was never even inspected. The site included many hazardous unfinished areas such as open pits where people could fall. Tenants who had moved in mere weeks ago, lured by the offer of $800 a month in rent for 250 ft of space, had to seek shelter and move their belongings at short notice. The developer of the complex stated that they are trying their best to work with hotels to provide tenants with space and resolve this issue as soon as possible. Residents of the neighborhood saw the evacuation as a telltale sign of the city’s rapid development.
