Last week, Seattle’s new Hyatt Regency Hotel opened on the north side of downtown near the site of the planned Washington State Convention Center addition. At 500 ft, 45 stories and 1,264 guest rooms (complete with floor-to-celing windows), it is now the largest hotel in the Northwest region.
The design by LMN architects features 103,000 square feet of meeting space, anticipating it’s use as a convention facility. This includes two massive ballrooms with over 19,000 sq ft of space each, each equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and presentation technology according to artist’s renderings. The hotel also contains the largest yet location of local high-end restaurant chain Daniel’s Broiler, complete with 14,000 sq ft of space for entertaining hungry and thirsty guests.
The hotel’s construction has met with many challenges over the years, including red tape and union disputes. Now that it is complete, though, it seems to stand as a probable pinnacle of the city’s recent hotel boom, which saw over 3,000 rooms added to the city between the middle of 2016 and the beginning of 2018.
