Last week saw the opening of the new Moxy Seattle Downtown in Southlake Union. The Moxy line is a creation of Mariott designed to be slightly more affordable than the typical downtown hotel, and appeal to a younger audience. The Seattle location is the first of its kind to open on the West Coast.
The Moxy line prides itself on cooky couture, and the SeattleĀ iteration, designed by Ankrom Moisan Architects with interiors by The Society, is no exception. Guests are greeted by the “Captain” (general manager) with a complimentary cocktail. Compact rooms are designed to evoke an old-timey ocean liner, complete with rustic nautical decor. Much of the room is occupied by a king-sized bed which houses motion-activated LED lights underneath. A 55” TV with Netflix and Hulu is mounted to the wall along with a rack for clothes and hip art. The bathroom contains a two-person rain shower.
The new hotel also offers an extensive lounge (rumored to have a teeter totter) and bar area, with nightlife events hosted throughout the week such as drag trivia nights, dance-a-thons and sketch classes. It also contains a fitness center, meeting rooms with writable walls, a snackbar, and a communal ironing room.
