Seattle-based PCC Community Markets, a community-owned grocery business with over 60,000 members, will open its first location south of Seattle in the suburb of Burien on May 23. Located in the Five Corners Shopping Center on 1st Avenue South, the location will be the area’s first certified organic food market. PCC also promises that the Burien location will be the first run completely on renewable energy through the use of renewable energy credit purchases after opening. The building will additionally use green technology to reduce its lighting and fresh water usage. The new store will bring 100 jobs to the Burien community, and will participate in local charitable giving programs. The location’s 25,000 sq. ft. will include a taqueria, a pizzeria, and a yogurt bar. PCC currently operates 11 stores in the Puget Sound region, with two more stores planned for Seattle in the coming years.
