Facebook’s Oculus Set to Expand in Seattle Region

Facebook-owned VR company Oculus appears to be significantly expanding its operations in the Seattle region. According to recent job postings, the company expects to hire more than 100 positions at its Redmond offices, about as many open positions as the company currently has posted for the rest of its offices combined, including at its Menlo Park headquarters. Such a workforce expansions will likely involve a real estate expansion as well. Reports from the real estate community indicate that Oculus is on the lookout for an estimated 200,000 square feet of research and development space in the Redmond area. The company is also said to be searching for a large amount of office space closer to the Seattle tech hub, potentially as much as one million square feet. A spokesperson from the company merely reiterated Oculus’s much-publicized goal of getting one billion people into VR, and talked about the region’s growth in general terms without going into specifics. The company currently occupies over 51,000 square feet of office space in Seattles’s Sodo neighborhood, and 100,000 square feet of office and warehouse space in Redmond.
