Surplus warehouse space owned by King County located on Harbor Island will now play home to two organizations tasked with providing aid to individuals and families dealing with homelessness. The Block Project provides cottages that concerned citizens can place in their backyards to shelter homeless persons, providing a direct neighborhood solution to homelessness. The organization built it’s first tiny house in Beacon Hill last Fall. Humble Design provides gently used home furnishings to families exiting homelessness. The organization already has outposts in Detroit, Dearborn and Chicago. The warehouse facilities provided by the county will make it easier for members of the community to make donations and help build projects. In the case of Humble Design, it will also allow a space for families to be matched with the goods they need to start their new home.
